Narrative collages
"Where You From, Boo?" Batiked and shibori fabric collaged onto hard surface already in frame, to depict and memorialize a visit by a friendly ghost, and the sight of sneakers slung over and hanging from a telephone wire in a certain kind of urban and distrinctly vibrant community, 23" x 23" 2024.
"These Bodies," Paper collage, 30" x 30", 2022. This collage celebrates and honors the curvy Black female body and its right to exist in various spaces -- in this case, in yoga poses.
“Say Their Names,” paper collage on particleboard, 35" x 35", 2021. This collage depicts and reimages events of the summer of 2020, including incidents of police brutality against Black Americans. The 35 individual vignettes in this collage, and links information about each one, can be viewed and read by clicking on the photo.
"Avec La Tete" paper collage on wood, 24" x 24", 2009. This collage tells the story of a 2000-2001 visit to Haiti. The central figure is a woman selling water by the cupful from a bucket on her head. The background images represent moments on that seven-month trip that are recorded as a visual journal.
"Looking Out the Window on The Block," Collage on particleboard surface, 20" x 26", 2019.
"Spam Burrito," collage of paper and images torn from magazines depicting one month spent in Farmington, New Mexico, where one burrito flavor sold from a cooler in a laundromat parking lot was Spam, 2011.
"Toubab," Collage of batiked fabric by unknown Senegalese artist, blended with paper, to depict activities morning (left panel) mid-day (middle panel) and night (right panel), in the village of Keur Momar Sarr, Senegal, based on 2000 six-week visit.
