After Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times, he was paralyzed from the waist down. Nonetheless, he was handcuffed to his hospital bed. This reimagined image shows the officer who shot Jacob Blake handcuffed to a hospital bed. The handcuffing to a bed of a black man who has been physically weakened and who is therefore in need of health care becdause of police violence reminds us of Abner Louima, a Haitian man sodomized with a broom handle in 1997 in a Brooklyn Police precinct by former police officer Justin Volpe, then hospitalized and handcuffed to his bed. Volpe has been in prison since the crime and is eligible for release in 2025.
